Hilltop Haven

From South to Central
In November 2024, we shared with a local church the opportunity we believed the Lord was leading us into—a relocation from Jacmel to a region called Pignon. That morning, we invited the church to partner with us in raising $5,000 to purchase land for what would become Hilltop Haven. To our amazement, $8,000 was raised that Sunday—enough to cover the full cost of the land and the legal fees to secure it in our name. It was the first confirmation that we were stepping into something bigger than ourselves.

Legally Ours!
On December 18th, 2024, we visited a property tucked higher up on a mountaintop—overlooking the city below—and instantly knew it was the place. Peaceful, elevated, and full of potential, it felt like the exact location God had in mind for Hilltop Haven. Incredibly, just nine days later, on December 27th, we had the legal papers in hand. In a country like Haiti, where the absence of a functioning government often makes land transactions complicated and drawn out, this was nothing short of a miracle. God made a way—quickly, clearly, and undeniably.

The Meaning Behind the Name – Hilltop Haven
The name Hilltop Haven was prayerfully inspired by Psalm 50:10: “For every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.” This verse reminded us that the Lord not only owns the land but provides abundantly for His purposes. Perched on a hill, the property felt like a sanctuary—set apart, peaceful, and full of promise. It will be a haven where women and girls gather to grow, heal, learn, and encounter God. Hilltop Haven is a testimony to His ownership, His provision, and His heart for restoration.

The Announcement
On January 10th, 2025, we made it official: we’re building Hilltop Haven. What started as a dream and a piece of land was now moving into action. We shared the exciting news with our community, partners, and supporters—inviting them to help lay the first bricks of something eternal. This moment marked the beginning of the building process, a step of faith toward creating a space where women and girls will gather, grow, and be reminded of their God-given worth.

A Home That Fits- Designated With Purpose
As we began planning Hilltop Haven, it was important to us that the structure wouldn’t stand out as extravagant but would instead blend beautifully into the local community. We partnered with a skilled local contractor from the area who understands the culture, climate, and character of Pignon. He thoughtfully designed a unique structure that meets all of our needs for ministry, gathering, and growth—while also ensuring it remains approachable and accessible to the surrounding neighborhood. It’s a home that reflects the heart of the mission: rooted in community, built with purpose.

A Gift of Land- Expanding the Vision
When we first purchased land, we secured six santiem with the hope of one day expanding. Our plan was to build a combined mission home and pavilion, then separate them later as the ministry grew. But God had other plans. The landlord, deeply moved by the mission and our heart for the community, gifted us an additional six santiem—doubling our land—for free.
This incredible act of generosity reshaped our building process. Instead of combining two spaces into one and separating them later, we could now build the mission home and the pavilion as two separate structures from the beginning. This not only saves us significant resources but allows us to design both spaces with intentionality—a home with room to grow and a pavilion that can welcome many women from day one. It’s yet another confirmation that the Lord is building this haven.

Built for Community- The Heart of the Home
The floor plan for Hilltop Haven was created with connection in mind. At the center of the home is a spacious open-concept area, designed to bring people together—whether for Bible studies, meals, or simply doing life side by side. At the front, a wide welcoming porch serves as a natural gathering space for conversations, prayer, and house meetings. Every square foot was designed to be more than functional—it was designed to be intentional, fostering a sense of belonging and togetherness from the moment someone walks through the door.

Cactus Fence
While this area of Haiti remains safe, we installed a cactus fence to keep out unexpected visitors like chickens and goats. By the time of move in, the fence should be close to 7 feet tall and growing.

Provision in the Ground – We Dug a Well
In many areas of Haiti, rainwater collection is the primary method for gathering water, but in Pignon, where Hilltop Haven is located, we have the unique blessing of being able to dig a well. This provides us with a much more sustainable source of water, allowing us to drink directly from the faucet rather than relying on collecting and purifying water. The well is a vital resource for daily living and a crucial part of making Hilltop Haven not only functional but also sustainable for the long term.
