LAVI stands for Life and Vision Institute, and its name carries even deeper meaning in Haitian Creole—lavi means “life.” True to its name, this trade school offers young people a new beginning, a chance to build skills that can transform their futures and open doors that were once out of reach. By providing practical training in English, computer skills, and trades like plumbing and tiling, LAVI is creating opportunities for a new generation to step confidently into a life full of potential, independence, and purpose.

The Partnership

Fleri is partnering with LAVI Life and Vision Institute to sponsor four bright, ambitious young women for this year of classes.

These students have worked incredibly hard to complete their full high school education and earn their diplomas, a milestone that many women in Haiti never have the chance to reach. In a country where tuition can cost half a year’s salary, families often face the heartbreaking choice of sending only one or two children to school while others stay home or finish only elementary school. More often than not, boys are chosen to continue on to high school and university, leaving girls without the same opportunities.

For many women in older generations of our rural community, attending a trade school to learn English or computer skills would have been unimaginable. Some of the women in these generations never even had the chance to learn to write their own names. Today, these young women are stepping into possibilities that previous generations could only dream of, opportunities to build skills that can open doors to new careers and a brighter future.

The very fact that this opportunity exists marks a powerful shift for education, empowerment, and the next generation of women in our community.

Equipping For the Future:
The Power of English and Computers

While high schools in Haiti teach basic written English, speaking and conversational skills are often missing. LAVI’s advanced English program is designed to change that, ensuring students graduate with true fluency they can confidently put on their resumes. Paired with computer skills training, this program opens doors to new opportunities, from higher-level jobs in Haiti to online work and international possibilities.

With basic solar energy becoming more accessible and internet access expanding through innovations like Starlink, these young women can fully take advantage of their learning. What was once unimaginable in rural Haiti is now possible, giving this new generation of educated women the chance to build careers, independence, and a brighter future. By supporting these 4 young women, we’re not just investing in skills; we’re investing in empowerment, dignity, and the transformation of an entire community.
