The God Ask

Not every need fits into a program.

Not every story can be planned for.

In Haiti, there are often knocks at the door, requests for help, stories of hardship, moments of urgency. While we wish we could meet every need, there are times when one rises above the rest… one that we can’t ignore.

We call these moments The God Ask.

These are the needs we believe the Lord has specifically placed in front of us, unexpected, unplanned, and deeply personal. They don’t fall within our typical programs, but they carry the same heart: restoring dignity, bringing hope, and empowering the most vulnerable.

Sometimes it’s a family making a sacrifice for someone they love.

Sometimes it’s a life hanging in the balance, needing urgent care and intervention.

Sometimes it’s a home or community in crisis, calling for safety and restoration.

Sometimes it’s a situation that simply stops us in our tracks.

These are the moments that pull at our hearts and we believe they’re meant to be shared.

Through The God Ask, we invite our community, our Fleri friends, to step into these stories with us. To pray. To give. To be part of something deeply personal and profoundly life-changing.

Some of the most beautiful testimonies have come from these moments. These God Asks. Every story, a reminder that when God prompts, and His people respond, incredible things happen.

Current God Ask

“Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

Currently, we are not taking donations for a specific God Ask. This section is where we share urgent, one-off needs as they arise, God often leads us to moments that call for immediate community support, and when that happens, we will share the details here.

2 Lives Saved

We had gotten news that stopped us in our tracks.

One of our neighbors in Haiti, 36 weeks pregnant, was diagnosed with Placenta Previa, her placenta was completely blocking the birth canal and due to other complications with her health declining, she needed to be induced. The only safe option for delivery was an immediate C-section.

In Haiti, life-saving surgery doesn’t come first; payment does. No money, no care. For this mother, the total needed, C-section, epidural, hospital stay, and safe delivery—was $700. Her husband, earning about $150 a month, had been saving, but time was running out.

Through The God Ask, contributions poured in, raising more than enough to cover her care and additional expenses for a hemorrhage after birth. The result: both mother and baby are safe and we were even able to buy them a plot of land to set roots in a new area after leaving everything behind when gangs took over their town. This story runs into the next God Ask....

A Home For A New Beginning

After we were able to help this family purchase land, we knew it would be years before they could save enough to start building a home. Then, through one special God Ask, a Fleri Friend stepped in, and together, we were able to build them a home.

This home gives them space, comfort, and security as they settle into their new area, and as they recently welcomed a healthy baby girl, it is a place where life and hope can grow.

The impact doesn’t stop here: by blessing this one family, we are creating a trickle effect of generosity and opportunity that will allow three more women to thrive. The family has agreed to slowly pay back 25% of the housing costs. Those funds won’t sit idle, they will go directly toward launching three new job creation initiatives in our Travay & Thrive Program, blessing additional women in need.

Blessed to Bless

IMG_3343.JPG

While on a long drive with a Haitian friend, our founder heard a story that stayed with her.

Her friend, a hardworking man building a home for his wife and young son, had recently blessed a young mother who needed money before a doctor would treat her daughter. When asked how much she needed, she said: “Whatever you can give.” Without hesitation, he emptied his account, $150, trusting God would continue to provide for his needs that depended on that money saved.

He simply said:
“If God wants my money, He can have it.”

Through The God Ask, our community was able to bless him back tenfold, honoring his faith and generosity. In total, the response reached $1000, allowing him not only to replenish his emptied bank account but also to cover an unexpected challenge, a car repair, while ensuring he could continue caring for his family and helping others in need.

This story reminds us that God moves through ordinary people in extraordinary ways, and that when we respond to His promptings, we can multiply generosity, hope, and impact.

Salty Breastmilk

When a mother first came to our gate and told us that her doctor told her breast milk was too salty for the baby and to dry it up and buy formula at his clinic we had to tell her no. “No, sorry we cannot help, that's not something our organization does and we don't have the funds for it.” But a week later, she returned, and her baby was visibly weaker. That’s when we knew we had to throw out a God-ask. The one can of formula she barely could afford, ran out and she had no way to continue to feed her baby. With no money, she faced a nightmare no parent should endure. Through a God-ask, we were able to provide a full year’s supply of formula, sustaining her baby from two months to 14 months, ensuring he grew strong and healthy.

With confidence, we know the doctor only told her her breast milk was ‘too salty,’ because it would leave her no choice but to buy formula from his clinic, as formula is hard to find in that area. This is one of many examples of how, with limited education, many women in Haiti are vulnerable to being taken advantage of in medical settings.

The answered prayer didn’t stop with just formula. We also started up a business for her through our Travay & Thrive Initiative, giving her a sustainable way to care for her toddler. and new baby. Today, she sells hot dogs in the market, earning income and feeding her children every day.

A Place For Creativity

Another God Ask we had the privilege of answering came through our Kalbas ladies, a group of hardworking women who create and sell handmade items to support themselves and their families. For years, they worked out of a small rented space, but as circumstances changed, they needed to relocate farther up the mountain and find another dependable place to continue their work.

More than just a workspace, they needed a depot where they could store materials, protect finished products, and gather together consistently to create. Through our partnership, we were able to help them build and put together a new structure for their work. What may seem like a simple building represents stability and opportunity for these women. It provides a place where creativity and entrepreneurship can continue to grow, where income can be sustained, and where women are empowered to keep building a better future for their children.
